Picking what’s best for you - Difference between a facial and a treatment

Updated: Sep 6, 2025

Picture this: So, you have a wedding coming up, or your birthday or honestly any special occasion and you wanna make sure your skin looks the best it's ever had. You go to book a facial with an esthetican but trying to decide whether you need a treatment or a facial. Let me help!

A facial is simply that – a facial. It is typically a one-off service whose main focus is to give you that instant glow. It would probably include a gentle exfoliation to remove any dead skin and a hydrating mask or serums to add hydration and make you look all dewy. It can include tools such as LED therapy or a single sweep of micro, but it wouldn't be anything crazy. You’d definitely book a facial either right before a big event like a vacation or as a treat to pamper yourself. Facials can be tailored towards your skin type or concerns but if you’re only doing them every once in a while, you aren’t going to see major improvement with your skin concerns.

A facial treatment on the other hand is still a facial but it's a service that specifically geared towards treating your skin concerns and often comes in a series of facials . So that means you would be seeing your esthetician for a specific amount of facials within a certain period of time to see the results you want. Treatments often contain esthetic tools like microdermabrasion, microneedling or LED light therapy to improve your skin. With treatments, your esthetician would conduct a extremely thorough, in-depth analysis of the skin to help create an accurate treatment plan for you both to follow.

Now let’s say you have some stubborn hyperpigmentation marks that you are ready to tackle, starting a treatment plan would be your best bet on getting rid of said hyperpigmentation vs. just going in for the occasional facial. But if you are going on a vacay to Jamaica and simply want your skin to look hydrated and plumb in photos then a facial would be the right course of action for you.

Honestly, it really in just depends on what your end goals are for your skin! If you know that you plan to be consistent and this isn't going to be a one-off then definitely look into some facial treatments you want to try.

Also booking a consultation with your esthetician is a great way to figure out what would be right for you!
